Learning from New York 2000-2005

In this series, I present a new vision of the city through the unusual technique of painting on photographs. I created a surprisingly different perspective of New York by removing its commercial imagery.
The white painted geometric shapes make the advertisements that form the city's backdrop more conspicuous with their absence. These artificial open spaces change our relationship to New York's architecture and its urban ambiance. Signs are our visual guides, and removing them makes us aware of the presence / absence of these images in the city.
